In May 2010, the Department of Public Safety and Corrections partnered with Re-Entry Solutions of Alexandria to launch a one-hour, live radio program on issues pertaining to offenders preparing to reenter society and those individuals already under community (probation or parole) supervision.

Re-Entry Solutions is a central Louisiana service provider for many individuals under supervision. Mrs. Candy Christophe of Re-Entry Solutions and Mr. Michael Wynne, a Supervisor with the Alexandria Probation and Parole District Office, serve as co-hosts for the weekly program that explores offender reentry issues and how the Department and community can work together to address the challenges that arise.

Reentry Radio¬Ě can be heard live each Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on the following radio stations: 88.1 FM in Alexandria, 98.9 FM in Monroe and 92.5 FM in Shreveport. In addition, the program is broadcast live via the Internet by logging on Programs are also posted on the Department’s website to listen to at any time.

There are a wide range of topics discussed including supervision of sex offenders, faith-based programming in state correctional facilities, legislative matters involving Corrections, parenting help, housing and other crucial services for releasing offenders, and victims’ rights.  There are opportunities to call in to the show to ask questions of the co-hosts and guests.

Re-Entry Solutions generously donated the funding to pay for the first several months of the programming. Seeing the need for this important programming to continue, offender organizations at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center and the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women (both in St. Gabriel, LA) have agreed to pick up funding for 2011.

If you have ideas for future show topics or guests or would like to contribute by becoming a guest, please contact Mr. Michael Wynne at 318-487-5301.  The Department is also seeking other radio stations who may be interested in carrying the live program for their community, particularly in the south Louisiana communities of Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans (and Northshore).
